A Very Vintage Valentine’s Day!

With Valentine’s Day next week, we wanted to give you a little jewelry inspiration for your date night — or so you can drop some hints to your significant other about what you’d like ;) !  We’ve written about Vintage Boutique before, and it’s always one of our favorite shops to pick up a little something special before an event, or for every day wear.  To celebrate Valentine’s Day, and the launch of Vintage’s new website, we’re giving away one of our favorite pairs of earrings from the boutique!

For a chance to win, leave a comment here or on the post on our Facebook page, answering this question:  ”How would you wear these earrings to make them special on Valentine’s Day?”  Also, share our Facebook post on your page.  The person who shares and posts the most unique comment will win the earrings, and we will ship them in time for Valentine’s Day!  (Enter anytime before next Monday, February 11th.)

Here are some other Valentine’s items we love from Vintage!  Be sure to follow the boutique’s feed on Unclipt to view these items and more:

Vintage Boutique’s Take on Cold Weather Fashion

Brrrr…it’s cold outside today!  If you’re from Boston like us, or pretty much anywhere in New England or New York area, you feel our pain!  With highs in the 20′s this week, it’s important to bundle up, especially if you’re walking or waiting for public transportation.  While many stores are already full of bathing suits, shorts and sandals, some of our favorite local boutiques still have some great cold weather items in addition to new, lighter spring fashions.

If you’re in the Boston area, and in need of some weather-appropriate clothes and accessories, you should stop by Vintage Boutique in Brookline!  This great shop offers a modern take on Vintage-chic, and has everything from specialty accessories under $20, to high-end fine jewelry pieces.

You can find Vintage at 1382 Beacon Street in Brookline, MA.  Stop by for these great items now, and be sure to come back next weekend for their seasonal clearance sale (from Jan 25 – Feb 1)!

Dress for the cold weather from head to toe:

Map Wall

You know how you get a high from splurging on a new handbag? Well, saving up your money to splurge on a trip will give you longlasting memories!

You won’t be attached to a bag more than your memories.

The memories you create when you take a trip will be more precious and will outlast any souvenir or material item you bought.
I recently lost a family member and I can say firsthand that I appreciate and am more attached to the memories I have now more than ever. Even though my family and I have  all her belongings, it is the trips we took as a family to Monterey and Lake Tahoe during the summers that we look back on and cherish the most.

Here is a cute way I found to showcase the trips you went on!

Make a map wall to keep track of your trips!

This is such an easy and creative way to show others where you’ve gone while keeping track yourself!
We love the idea above where you stick little needles or even thumbtacks on the places you’ve gone.
Another cute idea is to get postcards from all your trips or pictures of you in the landscape and attach them to the map!

This is a fast and cheap way to decorate a blank wall!

Here are some maps that we love! Click on the images to grab the ones you like for your home!

This map is clear, colorful and it’s laminated so it will last longer than normall paper maps! Plus it is only about $12!

I love this map because it looks vintage and artsy! But the best part is that it costs $0.03. You read it right! Three cents!

Another cool idea is to get a vinyl wall decal like this one! Using colorful tack or pins will pop against the black! And it’s only about $20 but it can totally transform your wall.

My personal favorite is this cool scratch off map from Urban Outfitters! It is a little more expensive at $34 but it is SO COOL because you can scratch off the places you’ve been too!

I hope this gives you some decorating inspiration and motivates you to save up for that new trip! Remember to take tons of pictures to capture those memories forever!

Love,

To Thrift or Not to Thrift?

Many of us have donated clothing to Salvation Army or Goodwill, but what about shopping there for ourselves?  Thrift store shopping, or “thrifting,” has become a trend not only for those buying gently worn items out of necessity, but also among fashionistas looking for vintage or designer pieces at a steal.  But is all the hunting worth it for that one special find?  This weekend, the Savvy Staff found out for ourselves, exploring local consignment shops to discover the pros, cons, deals and steals at each location.
